Fingers, The Movie
Paul addresses the loss of his index finger by withdrawing into a kaleidoscope of memories involving tickles, picked noses, and unforgiving elevator buttons. Fingers is an alternative narrative about one man’s mental inventory of his missing finger–a travelogue of anatomy. (5:59, Narrative, HD) Excerpt taken from the official Fingers website.
A Review From Someone Who Doesn’t Usually Review Things
Director Jordan Kerfeld delivers a memorable and visually stunning piece in his short film entitled Fingers. The movie opens to a dream like sequence in which the main character Paul digs into the past and recalls experiences involving his foregone index finger. Throughout the film, the viewer expects a climax that might reveal a tragic accident that separated Paul from his finger (or perhaps an event that separated Paul’s finger from himself). Instead, Kerfeld transforms the story into a nightmarish sequence where the character furiously battles with his newly formed handicap only to find there is no possibility of victory. Paul must live life without a piece of himself.
The audience is left to interpret the story as a metaphor for lost love, departed family members, and irreparable people/objects in their own lives. Fingers will leave you thinking; what would life be without morning coffee, next door neighbors, a spouse, or even your own index finger. An intimate look into your own life is sure to follow the movie.
